IBM announces the new z15 mainframe--faster overall and better at AI than the z16

Due to be generally available 18 June, the new system employs the Telum II processor and Spyre AI accelerator discussed at https://xpu.pub/2024/09/03/hot-chips-2024/#Spyre (Be sure to read.) IBM says the new system will enable workloads beyond "transactional AI" but isn't clear about what transactional AI means. Undoubtedly the mainframe will be used for transaction processing, and AI is a means to analyze transactions.
