Imagination tips new E-Series GPU architecture to push edge-AI boundaries
Designed for graphics and AI at the edge, Imagination's E-series GPU adds new neural cores for 10x faster AI and burst processors for improved efficiency. The neural cores are similar to the tensor cores (matrix-math units) in Nvidia GPUs, and the burst processors are short-pipeline units alongside regular ALUs that reduce latency of FMAs and other operations.
Enhancing the AI capabilities of GPU IP is one way to break NPU's black-box AI-acceleration paradigm. Few companies license GPU designs, and Imgtec is advancing GPU-based AI technology with the E-series.
