Intel axes auto business. In other news, Intel had an automotive business.

Intel is shutting down its automotive business. Excluding Altera and MobilEye, Intel hasn't been an automotive force for years. In the past 10 years, it's had some success in driver infotainment with repurposed Atom netbook chips. It's also taken a stab at software-defined vehicles by repurposing laptop chips such as Raptor Lake-PX. Taking a step in a direction away from pushing what it already has, Intel acquired Silicon Mobility at the start of 2024. That company developed software Arm-based chips for the auto market. What a short, strange trip it has been for that company. The crazy thing is that old-guard auto-chip suppliers are easily intimidated by behemoths like Intel. Had Intel invested, it could've scared them off, at least from the young auto OEMs.
