Intel licenses x86 design to startup
Reuters reports that Intel has licensed Atom to Rosaic, providing RTL to ex-Rivos founder and LBT pal. Presumably "Atom" means Intel's E-Core. Even if not, the Atom/E-Cores (excepting the first gen or two) delivered exceptional performance/mm2. Of course, a lot comes from Intel's back-end team beating the design into submission. Regardless, getting your hands on gen-u-ine IP is great for compatibility, but also odd. Maybe Rivos's bet on RISC-V wasn't well timed, but I'm not sure I'd put eggs in the x86 basket as a startup.
